Registration for Girl Scout Programs offered at the Community Children’s Museum can be made through the Girl Scout Council using their program book forms. Their program book is available on line at http://www.magsc.org and clicking on the program links page. Below are the directions for registration. Reservations are only made through GSNNJ for this year. For all programs please arrive 10 minutes early for check-in. Fee includes museum admission and program supplies.

Girl Scout Program Procedures for 2007-2008

For each program or event, a registration form must be completed and MAILED with payment to GSNNJ at: 95 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Riverdale, N.J. 07457. Registration forms are found in the back of Girl Scout Program Book, online at www.gsnnj.org or at any service center.

No telephone, faxed, e-mail or hand-delivered reservations will be accepted for Year One, the transition year.

Reservations are only made through GSNNJ.

SESSIONS & DATES

For scheduling purposes, some programs request a 2nd and 3rd Choice of Sessions. If your 1st Choice of Sessions is not available, the 2nd or 3rd choice will be assigned. Do NOT indicate session dates and times unless the troop is available to attend the session.

RATIOS

Program opportunities are provided for registered Girl Scouts and their leaders. Additional adults are not permitted to register as they reduce the number of girl participants. Tagalongs are siblings and other non-registered Girl Scouts and are not permitted at programs. Non-registered girls are welcome to become a member and then join the program.

OPENING REGISTRATION DATES

Envelopes must be POSTMARKED on or after the opening registration date. Do not submit prior to opening date.

Your Registration must include:

1. Completed registration form with correct Adult: Girl ratios as indicated for each program.

2. Check made payable to GSNNJ or credit card information.

3. Completed Roster for Bus Trips and Overnight Events.

Submit a separate coupon and payment for each program.

Do not combine fees for several programs.

CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATIONS

Confirmation and further information will be mailed to contact person as indicated on registration form. If the registration cannot be accommodated, notification will be made and all fees will be refunded.

 

Girl Scout Programs 2007 – 2008 Brownies Try – It Badges

Program: Puppets, Dolls, & Plays
Grade Level: 1 st-3 rd Brownie Girl Scouts

Brief Program Description: View the museum’s beautiful doll collection from around the world and be inspired to make your own! Learn about different kinds of puppets and their craftsmanship. Make an Indian shadow puppet, create a stage for it and put on a play about safety do’s and don’ts using your puppet as the main character! Girls can make additional dolls and puppets to give to children in need. After the program be sure to visit the museum store.

Brief Program Description: Learn how buildings are built and what makes them strong. Design , draw and craft your own neighborhood of buildings. Think like an architect, put on your hard hat and brain storming mind as you create a fun place to live and work! Explore the museum exhibit’s architecture from other countries. Junior Girl Scout Badge Programs 2007 – 2008

Program: Toy Maker
Grade Level: 4 th-6th Junior Girl Scout

Brief Program Description: Girls will design and make two toys; one using recycled materials and one from another country to take home. They will learn about using toys safely and develop a safety checklist to share with other children’s organizations. They will experience toys from the old days and other countries as well as what makes a good and safe toy. Each troop will be asked to bring recycled materials (listed in confirmation card) to make toys that will be donated to local organizations providing for children in need. Brief Program Description: Learn about building structures and what makes them strong. Observe famous women architects’ work and other amazing buildings around the world. Begin to think like an architect as you brainstorm ideas for your own building design. Design, draw to scale and build your own ideas for a structure. Complete the project at your next troop meeting. Send a photo of your completed design to the museum to be showcased in their show, Architecture Projects of Junior Girl Scouts that the museum will host in June, 2008. Brief Program Description: Each troop will work together to create a business. Interact with local business women during a panel discussion explaining different kinds of businesses. Understand how to get started in your own business and how to advertise and market it. Each troop will assess the group’s interests and skills and brainstorm ideas for their own business. Name it and devise your plan of action including a communication plan. How successful will your business be? After the program be sure to visit the museum store.

They will walk in the shoes of a girl their age and see first hand how they live, their homes, what they eat, how they speak and what they wear. Learn about the country and make a map from there. Program: Up, Up and Away!

Grade Level: 4th-6 th Junior Girl Scout

Brief Program Description: Aerospace; what is it and what does it have to do with paper airplanes? The girls will learn about flight and how to make things that fly. They will think like Aeronautical scientists as they design model planes. The girls will become astronauts and learn about clothing and food eaten in space including participating in a taste test of astronaut ice cream! They will sit in a full scale replica of the Friendship 7 Space Capsule piloted by John Glenn, see its launching and learn about the first space flight adventures.
