History
In 1996 a group of parents came together
to create a children's museum that would serve all of
the community in Morris County. They incorporated in 1996
and received their not profit status in 1997. Since then
the Community Children's Museum has established itself
with successful children's programs in art, science and
world cultures as well as with the Hospital Pediatric
Art Program. This ongoing outreach program carried out
in three area hospitals reaches an estimated 10,000 pediatric
patients per year.
Once the Museum had established a track record of quality
programming they started the long process of finding a
permanent home for their exhibits and programs. It was
hard to find a place that was in an excellent location
yet affordable, but in February 2002 the quest was over.
They found a great space located one block from the train
station and on the main street in Dover. They have been
renovating the 5,400 sq ft space at 77 E Blackwell Street
and building new and exciting exhibits and hope to open
in the Fall of 2003. Look for the grand opening in the
local newspapers.
